MarleyI met Ed Miller when we were in college a long time ago.

He had a Malamute named Kooa who would take herself to the drive-up window of the bank in town and ask for cookies. And she could say “Kang-a-roooooo!” She was a magnificent creature, and the first dog I really got to know.

Years went by, Ed married Lolly. There were other Malamutes, including the incredible Wooly Bear, who was the mascot of Ed’s softball team. The team cheer was “Woof woof wolly!”

And most recently, there was Marley Malamute, the beautiful dog who’s laughing in the photo.

Why’s Marley laughing? Ed said “She was laughing at a joke I told her about two Dalmatians who get lost on a dark road.”

Ed & Lolly had to say goodbye to Marley last week, when she died at age 11. A friend gave Ed a book about dogs and their angels, and he called the author and had a wonderful conversation with her. She asked for some photos of Marley and she wrote this lovely post about her Lighthearted Press Blog

RIP sweet Marley Malamute.
