Dog on It – a Chet and Bernie Adventure Mystery

I’ve loved books starring dogs since I was a little girl. And I’m adding Spencer Quinn’s quirky, anthropomorphic, laugh out loud funny, heart-racing, page turner of a novel, Dog on It: a Chet and Bernie Mystery, to my top 10 all-time favorite dog book list.

The story involves Bernie Little, chief and sole proprietor of the Little Detective Agency, and his steadfast companion, Chet, who flunked out of police dog school, but who uses his keen senses of smell, sound and sight and humor to aid his down-on-his-luck human best friend.

Kidnapping, Gangsters, Bikers, a Wild She-Dog: Oh My!
The story is told in an endearingly hard-boiled style by Chet. It involves a possible kidnapping of a teenager, very scary Russian gangsters, a sort of girlfriend for Bernie, the call of a wild she-dog for Chet, hard-boiled bikers, lots of twists, turns, and more than a little peril, plus some human issues Chet doesn’t understand, like divorce and child custody.

I read the book mostly during flights and airport delays, laughed out loud helplessly, and more than once had to stop my self from crying out “Oh no!” and “Oh my god! Don’t hurt Chet!” The story is also clearly, and thankfully, the first in a series. A sequel is already in the works. You need to buy this book!
