Pawfun’s Animal Communicator: How to Help Your Cat Go to the Vet Calmly
By Janet Roper
Picture this: You have scheduled a vet appointment for your cat. Your daughter Suzi overslept and missed the school bus. You had to drop her off at school. You rushed home – already late for the vet appointment – and your cat is NO WHERE to be found.
Your Houdini cat has evaporated into thin air! What should you do? Communicate!
Communicating with your cat exactly what is going on and why it is happening will often begin to put the cat more at ease about the entire experience. Here are some tips that will reduce the risk of your cat doing his/her pre-vet visit disappearing act:
- Explain what’s going on either verbally or mentally to your cat, whichever way feels more comfortable to you. S/he will pick up on it.
- Stay calm and focused when talking to the cat. Image the cat calmly waiting in its favorite spot.
- Be up front with your cat about the appointment. Even before you make the call, tell the cat what you will be doing; why you are making the appointment. Is it for a yearly checkup? Tell the cat. Is it because your cat has allergies? Focus on the point that the vet intends to ease its discomfit; wants to help him feel more comfortable.
- The vet is most probably not your cat’s favorite place to go. Acknowledge this. Do not try to ‘sweet-coat’ the trip. Animals are very tuned into us and are aware when our words are not congruent with our feelings.
- If you find yourself running late, let your cat know. Ask for his/her help in getting back on time by being in their favorite place when you get home, ready to go.
Animal Communication practice tip: By calming yourself and imaging the projected outcome to your cat, you will soon find your cat becoming more calm, ready to help you any way s/he can.
You will no longer have a Houdini cat, but a cat willing to be with you and partner with you!
