How Orvis Makes It Appear They Haven’t Raised Dog Bed Prices

A while back, packs of gum and candy bars got smaller, but their prices remained the same. Manufacturers figured that we would resist or at least grump about paying more, so they gave the illusion of not raising their prices. That’s exactly what Orvis has done with their Orvis Tough Chew Dog Bed.

When I bought Benny his first Orvis Tough Chew Dog Bed, four years ago, it came with a terrific waterproof liner – great for the mad chewing puppy he was at the time.

Orvis offers to replace the Orvis Tough Chew Dog Bed, no questions asked, if your dog chews through it. Benny Bix Ochman managed to chew through the cover and the liner, both of which were graciously replaced two years ago.

He’s grown, and instead of his original medium-sized Orvis Tough Chew Dog Bed, he now needs a large.

When I ordered it today, I was surprised to see that the liner is now an additional $40. Same philosophy as the candy manufacturers – providing the illusion that prices have not gone up, when in fact the price has risen significantly. Leaves a bad taste. Just saying.
